EndNote Libraries

Notes on Libraries

  • New libraries create two parts to support the library (.enl file and .data folder). Both parts are required for the library to operate.  Do not delete either part.
  • Users can create an unlimited number of libraries
  • Only ONE library can be synced to an EndNote Online account
  • Do not save libraries on shared or cloud-based drives (this can lead to corruption issues)
  • After creating a library, its location can be identified by selecting the Library Summary... option from the Tools menu

Create a customized library of all your references.

  1. File menu > New...
  2. Select a location for saving
  3. Rename the file
  4. Save button

Find Full Text

Locates full text files associated with references in a library.  Optimize this feature by adding an *OpenURL Path.
3. Libraries Designates library to open when EndNote starts.
4. Sync Synchronizes the EndNote desktop application with EndNote Online, making libraries accessible from any device.
5. Term Lists Formats citations and references when inserted into a document.

Define a Journal Term List

The Journal Term List makes journal names appear consistently in the bibliography, either in an abbreviated format or complete name format.
