Apps, Tips & Tricks for Your iPad: WiFi on Your iPad

Connecting your iOS device to the internal mdamobile Wi-Fi network

Apple's iOS devices including iPads, iPod Touches, and iPhones have the ability to connect to our internal mdamobile Wi-Fi network.  In order to ensure reliability reconnecting to the wireless network, we recommend your device have the latest version of the iOS installed.  This document will assume that you are running iOS 4.2.1 on the iPad, however the steps are similar for other versions and devices.  In order to connect to mdamobile, you must use your MyID (Active Directory; mdanderson.edu) credentials.

The steps to connect are as follows:

1.  Go to Settings - Wi-Fi.  If this is off, turn on and skip to step 2.

If Wi-FI is already on and connected to another network like mdaguest, click on the blue arrow to the right of the network and select "Forget This Network" at the top of the screen.

2.  The mdaguest network's SSID is not broadcast, therefore you will not typically see it on the list and you must instead select "Other..."

3.  Enter the name of the wireless network as "mdamobile."  Under security chose "WPA Enterprise."

4. After selecting WPA Enterprise, click on the back or "Other Network" arrow in the top left corner of the pop-up window.

5.  In the Username field, enter mdanderson\UserID. This User ID is your MyID, the same as your Windows login.  Enter your password in the Password field then click "Join."  If the keyboard is hiding the Join button press the Join key on the bottom right of the keyboard.

6. Assuming the credentials were entered correctly, you should be back at the Wi-Fi settings page and have a check besides the connected network; mdamobile.  If you see a check besides mdaguest this may be normal.  Both networks run on the same hardware and if you wait you can see checkmark flip between the two networks.  The easiest way to prove that you successfully connected to mdamobile is to open the internal webpage  http://inside.mdanderson.org on your device.
