Advanced Tip: To Unformat Citations in your Manuscript

Advanced Tip: To Unformat Citations in your Manuscript:

  1. Open your manuscript. Before you unformat, be sure that you have the EndNote Library connected to the manuscript you are working on. Next select Update Citations and Bibliography. Your manuscript must be on the same computer as the document in order to unformat and reformat your citations properly.
  2. Go to Convert Citations and Bibliography and Convert to Unformatted Citations.
  3. Click here to view screenshot of step 2

  4. Your bibliography will temporarily disappear, and your citations will temporarily be converted to placeholders. Your in-text citations are replaced with braces, the first author’s last name and a record number. Your in-text citation will now look something like this, {Berkowitz,  #9}. At this point you can delete references and copy and paste text in your Word document without worrying about using any EndNote tools.
  5. When you are ready you can turn your formatting back on by selecting Update Citations and Bibliography.
  6. Click here to view screenshot of step 4
